Lisnaskea Credit Union Celebrates 50 Years of Service to the Community
On 13th September 2025, Lisnaskea Credit Union proudly celebrated 50 years of service to our members and community. The milestone event was held at the Slieve Russell Hotel, where staff, volunteers, past board members, and guests came together for a wonderful evening of reflection and celebration.
The evening was an opportunity to honour the dedication and hard work of all those who have contributed to the Credit Union’s success over the past five decades. From humble beginnings in 1975 to becoming a trusted financial partner for thousands of members, Lisnaskea Credit Union continues to stand for the values of community, trust, and support.
Honoured guests included founding members Mr. Peter Leonard, Mr. James McDonnell, Mrs. May Kearney, and Mrs. Margaret Benson. Although unable to attend, Mrs. Lena Benson and Mrs. Collette Guidera were warmly remembered and acknowledged for their vital contributions. Mr. Brendan Jenkins, President of the Irish League of Credit Unions, was an honorary guest on the night.
In towns and rural communities like Lisnaskea, credit unions have often become the last remaining financial institutions, stepping in to fill critical service gaps and provide continuity for those who might otherwise be financially excluded. The evening served as a powerful reminder of the Credit Union’s importance — not just as a financial institution, but as a pillar of community support and connection.
As part of the celebration, a commemorative book was launched, capturing stories, photographs, and memories from members and volunteers through the years. The book serves as both a historical record and a heartfelt tribute to everyone who has played a part in the Credit Union’s journey.
Guests at the event also enjoyed the premiere of a mini documentary, produced specially for the occasion. The film features interviews with staff, volunteers, and members, showcasing the Credit Union’s lasting impact on local families and businesses.
The celebrations even caught the attention of the BBC, who visited Lisnaskea to record interviews and share the Credit Union’s inspiring story with a wider audience.
We would like to thank everyone who attended, contributed to the book, or helped make the 50th anniversary such a memorable occasion.
Here’s to the next 50 years of community, connection, and commitment.
